Republic Hindustan, Adilabad: SC and ST Court Special Judge Kumar Vivek on Monday sentenced a man to six months in jail and a fine of Rs 2000/- for insulting a Scheduled Tribe person in the name of caste and attacking him with an axe.

On 31.01.2022, a villager of Guda village of Jainath mandal, along with the victim Madavi Raju and his wife, went to his relatives’ house in Pittaguda village in the morning and returned to Guda village at around 8 pm when the same villager, the accused *Bandari Devanna* (62) s/o Ramulu, came to the road and asked for money to drink alcohol. He said that he did not have any and would give it to him tomorrow. While he was going back, he scolded him and said, “Gondoda (insulting him by mentioning his caste) and gave him money.” He also came and hit him from behind with an axe, causing a blow to his right eye and causing injury. Madavi Raju was immediately taken to RIMS in a 108 ambulance and given treatment.
On the application of Madavi Raju, the then Jainath SI Bitla Perseus registered a case and DSP V Umender investigated and registered a case under Section 294 B 324 IPC 3 (1)(r)(s) 43 (2)(va) 7 SC ST Act and filed a chargesheet.
Special PP Musku Ramana Reddy examined 12 witnesses and proved the crime. Special Judge SC ST Court Kumar Vivek delivered the verdict and sentenced Bandari Devanna to six months of simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 500/- under Section 324 IPC, six months and a fine of Rs. 2000 under Section 3(1)(2), six months and a fine of Rs. 500 under Section 3(1)(s), six months of imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 500 under Section 3(1)(s), and a total of six months of imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 500 under all the sections.
District SP Akhil Mahajan IPS specially congratulated the staff who played a key role in presenting the witnesses in this case, including the court duty officer MA Jamir, Jainath CI D Sainath, and the court licensee Pandari.
